Damen Koso JEFFCO Grounds Maintenance Anchorage, AK |
Damen Koso is the apple of his mother’s eye, but when the snow is falling in Anchorage, AK, mom Jeannie Schenderline is all business.
Schenderline, owner of JEFFCO Grounds Maintenance, says Koso has been involved with the business since he was 10, getting his start on a shoveling crew. He has been the lead loader operator for the company since he was old enough to drive. In addition to working on a plowing crew, Koso is in charge of all haul outs—on a recent Saturday he supervised removal of 190 semi-loads after 14 straight days of snow.
Schenderline took over the business after a divorce and had no choice but to sink or swim—and she chose to swim. Koso, she says, has been an integral part of JEFFCO’s success. “I didn’t know anything about this business, but all of a sudden I was alone with a company and a year-and-a-half-old. It has been hard at times, but Damen has done really well,” Schenderline says proudly. “He is my key player, and it has been rewarding to see him grow in this business—he really could take it over at this point.”
